One of the three hillforts of Lyduvėnai, also known as Danutės Hill, is located 350 meters southwest of the famous Lyduvėnai Bridge. The hillfort is fortified by ramparts and ditches, currently covered with forest. The legend has it that once there was a castle on the hill. The loved one of the princess (of the castle) Danutė, never came back from war. Danutė suffered from sadness and this is how the name of the place – Liūdžiuvienai, Liūdavėnai, Lyduvėnai (Lithuanian ‘liūdėti’ meaning ‘to grieve, sorrow) originated.
